Camperdown Quarter

Residential-Led Development
Community Consultation

Welcome to this consultation website, where you can find the latest information on exciting proposals by Joinery and Timber Furniture Creations (65) Ltd (JTC Furniture) for a residential-led development located on the site of the current Camperdown Works factory on Harrison Road.

This website outlines how you can learn more about the proposed development - referred to as Camperdown Quarter for the purposes of this consultation - and share your views as part of a statutory Pre-Application Consultation (PAC). The PAC provides an opportunity for the local community and other key stakeholders to comment on the proposals before an application for Planning Permission in Principle (PPiP) is submitted to Dundee City Council. The application will seek to establish the principle of development on the site.

A Proposal of Application Notice (Reference - 25/00550/PAN) was submitted to Dundee City Council and other key stakeholders in September 2025 to formally commence the PAC process.

As part of the PAC process , two in-person public consultation events are being held. The second event will take place on Tuesday, 25th November 2025, between 2pm and 7pm at JTC Furniture Group, Block 5, Dunsinane Avenue, Dunsinane Industrial Estate, Dundee, DD2 3QN.

Your feedback is important to us and will help shape our final proposals for the Camperdown Quarter development. We look forward to hearing from you.

Site Location

The site, formerly the location of the Timex Factory, is situated within the Dryburgh area, approximately 3.4 kilometres northwest of Dundee City Centre.

It extends to approximately 9.7 hectares and is bounded on its south by Coupar Angus Road/Faraday Street, with Harrison Road to its east, a cluster of business/ light industrial buildings to its north, and a tree buffer on its northwest, with residential properties further to the north.

Securing JTC’s future in Dundee

In April 2024, JTC Furniture was acquired by Woodland Furniture Group, a Northern Ireland-based manufacturer and supplier of kitchens, bedrooms, bathrooms, and bespoke furniture solutions.

A review of operations quickly identified that the existing Camperdown Works site is no longer fit for purpose due to its outdated condition and very poor state, that redevelopment is not viable.

Several relocation options were considered, including moving operations to Woodland Furniture Group’s headquarters in Northern Ireland. However, WFG/JTC Furniture is committed to retaining its skilled Dundee workforce and will remain in the city.

If planning permission is granted, Camperdown Quarter will help fund the relocation of JTC Furniture’s long-standing manufacturing facility to nearby Dunsinane Industrial Estate (where the public consultation events are being held), thereby securing JTC Furniture’s future in Dundee.

The relocation has been forward-funded, with revenue from the proposed Camperdown residential-led development required as part of the overall business plan.

The company currently employs around 200 staff, with plans to increase the workforce by 20 per cent to approximately 240 in the coming years.

The new factory will bring approximately £7 million of inward investment into the city, securing the long-term future of skilled local jobs and with wider benefits for local services and suppliers.

Proposed Development

Camperdown Quarter is an exciting new residential-led development on the site of the current Camperdown Works factory, which will be demolished. This will include affordable homes, neighbourhood shops, and business units.

A total of 219, three-, four- and five-bedroom homes are proposed for the site. It is noted that Dundee City Council has no requirement for housing development to make provision for affordable homes. However, proposals for Camperdown Quarter will include 15 per cent affordable housing (33 homes), comprising a mix of apartments, houses and cottage flats.

These much-needed, new energy-efficient homes will help tackle the nationwide housing emergency while securing the future of manufacturing operations in the city.

It is intended that any future masterplan for the site will include retaining links to the wider green network, maintaining existing woodland areas, and introducing new planting and landscaping across the site to enhance wildlife habitats and biodiversity.

The heritage of the former Timex Factory will be celebrated through a new public artwork, delivered in consultation with the local community.

Camperdown Quarter will create a modern, attractive, and connected place where people will love to live.

Have Your Say

The Pre-Application Consultation (PAC) process offers you the opportunity to provide valuable feedback and suggestions on the proposals for Camperdown Quarter. This will allow your comments to be considered and for the proposals to be further developed before submitting a planning application to Dundee City Council.

This input is crucial in ensuring that the development meets the needs of both future occupants and the local community.

As part of this process, a second, and final, drop-in public consultation event will be held on Tuesday, 25th November 2025, between 2pm and 7pm at JTC Furniture Group, Block 5, Dunsinane Avenue, Dunsinane Industrial Estate, Dundee, DD2 3QN (car park accessed via Craigowl Street).

Consultation boards will highlight the updated proposals, and you’ll have the opportunity to provide feedback. The project team will be on hand to answer any questions. You can view the consultation boards and feedback form below, or alternatively, Contact Us to provide feedback or for further information.

Comments should be received by Friday, 12th December 2025.

This second public consultation event follows an initial event held in October 2025, and will present updated development proposals. These will address key comments raised during the consultation process and, where appropriate, consider, adopt and incorporate them.

Comments made do not constitute representations to Dundee City Council. An opportunity to make representations to the Council will be available following formal submission of the planning application.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Next Steps

Subject to this consultation exercise and further discussions with Dundee City Council and other stakeholders, it is proposed to submit an application for Planning Permission in Principle (PPiP)in January 2026. This will seek to establish the principle of development on the site.

This planning application will include supporting information covering a range of topics, including design, built heritage, townscape, sustainability, biodiversity, transport, ecology, flooding, drainage, ground conditions, and noise.

A PAC report will outline the consultation activities that have taken place, in line with statutory requirements, and how any feedback has been addressed.
